Lifting your Mood

“Lifting Your Mood” is a 12-week Cognitive Behavioural Therapy course to help you overcome depression.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy which is recommended by the NHS for the treatment of both depression and anxiety. It is based on the idea that the way we feel is affected by the way we think, and by what we do (or avoid doing).

CBT is not just about talking. It’s about learning new strategies to manage your emotions, change unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and find ways to break out of negative or unhelpful thinking. The course also covers other useful skills including anxiety management, and assertiveness. These skills will be helpful to you long after the course finishes. Each week there will be a task for you to work on at home, to help you develop these skills and apply them to your life. These tasks are really important, as the more you put in to CBT, the more you will benefit from it.

Keep in mind that you will not feel better straight away; just like learning anything new, some skills take a bit of time and practice. It may take a few weeks for you to make changes and to feel the benefit. Please do bear with it, and talk to the group facilitators if you have any concerns.
